Freelance Dance Work - Choreography & Instruction
Taryn Javier (lookworks) is a Calgary based dance artist and GYROTONIC® trainer. Her interest in GYROTONIC® began years ago in a dance class where she was introduced to the GYROKINESIS® Method. Immediately intrigued by the freedom and strength that she found in her body after one class, Javier realized this method was something she wanted to invest in further. Her passion for GYROTONIC® grew as she increased her training. Realizing the healing benefits she felt could and should be shared with others. After completing her GYROTONIC® training with Toronto’s Crispin Redhead she pursued her certification and is excited to share this knowledge with people of all walks of life. She can be found promoting health through movement, teaching private GYROTONIC® sessions in the city. Artistically, her work has been presented at; Dance Montage, Aleatoires 48 heures, Alberta’s Dance Explosions, the High Performance Rodeo, the Fluid Festival, Dancers’ Studio West’s AIR and MAKESHIFT projects 8x3 Performance Series. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including; The UofC Dean’s Creative Achievement Award, Canada Council for the Arts, The Alberta Foundation for the the Arts, Springboard Performance’s Interrarium, and the Danceweb scholarship to the ImpulsTanz festival in Vienna. Javier also directed/co-produced, inlayers - An online interactive contemporary dance experience initiated and directed by Javier in Montreal, 2010.
